Ellcon -The Author’s view

29542791_2039524019668972_8084621711104685672_nI remember months ago being asked if I’d be interested in attending this event. I had two thoughts. 1: Wow, they think I am an author!!! and 2: Fuck, two days with a bunch of women I don’t know, who will probably look down their noses at me because they are the real authors!!!

How wrong was I!?

After months of worrying about it, it was here! The day had finally arrived and as I packed up my wife’s car ready for the 3-hour drive ahead, I wondered if I should just make up an excuse not to go. But, a bout of confidence hit me and off we went.

Now, it might come as a surprise to some but…most writers are not naturally outgoing. We spend more time in our own heads than we do talking to other people. But, even so, we also assume that we are the only person like that! In my mind, everyone that was there would be confident, outgoing and bouncy!! Plus, they were real writers!! I was the fraud who somehow managed to get 4 books published and an invitation to attend, by fluke!!

I assumed that all these women, my peers, would be snotty, up their own backside, looking down their noses, evil bitches!! 😉

How wrong could I be!!?

This had to be the most amazing experience of my life to date! I met and spent time getting to know some of the most wonderful women. Supportive, funny, educational, welcoming and just fucking fabulous!!
